  Popular Styles in the Sixteenth Century
  ~ The Continent and England ~
Settings of favorite tunes from the Odhecaton, Canti B and Conti C, dances to accompany dancing, stylized dances for listeing, court entertainments, carnival songs, multichoir compositions from the works of eminent composers such as Agricola,  Senfl,  Morley, Ortiz, Byrd, Dowland,  Gabrieli,  Morales,  Tallis. The rise in instrumental music in the 16 c. is demonstrated by the ever increasing number of purely instrumental compositions as well as the practice of substituting instruments for voice.  

The workshop offers -
Classes with experienced early music teachers - choice of classes on various early music topics - technique classes for your instruments

Playing in pre-arranged ensembles with other early music enthusiasts of your own level
Large ensembles
Informal ad-hoc drop in groups; playing with harpsichord
Student and faculty concerts
Comfortable accommodations in a new dormitory (one bath per double room)
All facilities are air-conditioned
Spacious dining room; deli bar, salad bar, regular entrees, fresh fruit. (Mealtime provides a good opportunity to chat with faculty - ask all the questions you didn't ask in class)

About Mideast Workshop
The workshop has been held annually since 1971.  Enjoy learning and playing in a relaxed and friendly setting with an outstanding faculty. Success of the workshop is demonstrated by the large number of returning students in addition to attracting new early music enthusiasts.
